Summer Fun & Prizes: Elkhart Public Library’s Summer Reading Challenge is Back!
Written by Zach Miller on May 14, 2025

Looking for a way to keep your kids entertained this summer while preventing that dreaded summer slide? We’ve got great news! The Elkhart Public Library’s Summer Reading Challenge 2025 is back with amazing prizes that will have your kids begging to crack open a book.
What’s the Challenge?
Starting May 16th, kids 18 and under can participate in this free program designed to keep reading skills sharp during summer break. The best part? Kids get to choose what they want to read – no assigned school reading here!
Amazing Prizes Up for Grabs
The grand prize this year is incredible – an Indiana Dinosaur Museum experience package for up to four people! This family adventure includes tours of the Indiana Dinosaur Museum, South Bend Chocolate Company, restaurant meals and a hotel stay. What a perfect family mini-vacation!
But that’s not all. By reading just 21 days this summer (and they don’t have to be consecutive), your child can earn tickets to win prizes like:
- Razor Scooter
- Jumbo Squishmallow
- Wooden Train set
- 100-piece MagnaTiles set
- Dog Man Book set
- Board game package
The more they read, the more chances they have to win – additional prize tickets can be earned at 42 and 60 days of reading!
How to Participate
Tracking reading is easy through the Beanstack app, or you can use a paper gameboard to hang on your fridge. To enter for the grand prize, kids need to submit a book review by Monday, July 14. They can enter through:
- The Beanstack app
- Social media by tagging #myepl and #summerreading on Facebook, Instagram or X
- Paper submission at any library location
Rewards Along the Way
As kids read, they’ll unlock rewards throughout the challenge from local favorites like Chick-Fil-A, Taco Bell, Vanilla Bean Creamery, Twisted Cow, and many more. After 21 and 42 days of reading, kids will also get to pick from more than 30 free book titles!
Why It Matters
Just three weeks of summer reading helps prevent learning loss. Last year, 40% of participants read for six weeks and returned to school ready to succeed in August. This is your chance to give your kids the freedom to explore books they’re actually interested in!
Save the Date!
Prize winners will be announced at the Summer Reading Challenge Party on Thursday, July 17 from 3-6 PM at McNaughton Park in Elkhart. Winners don’t need to be present to win.
We at Froggy 102.7 are proud to partner with Elkhart Public Library and Ranger Distribution Inc. to bring this amazing program to our community!
