Remember July 4th, when you wrangled the kids, packed the lawn chairs, loaded up on snacks… and then watched storm clouds roll in and ruin the whole show? Yeah, we haven’t forgotten either. Good news, mama: round two is officially on the calendar.

The City of Elkhart just announced the America 250 Fireworks Celebration, and it’s happening this Saturday, July 18 at Central Green in Downtown Elkhart. Consider it the universe making things right.

What’s the Plan?

This isn’t just a fireworks show — it’s a whole evening out, and the lineup is stacked:

• 3:30 p.m. — Live music kicks off with a performance by Couch
• 6 p.m. — Rick King’s Royal Hustle takes the stage
• 8 p.m. — Tritt/McGraw performs
• 10 p.m. — The main event: the America 250 Fireworks Show, described as the largest fireworks display Elkhart Parks & Recreation has ever put on

Translation: pack a light dinner for the kiddos because this is a marathon, not a sprint — but a fun one.

Food, Freebies, and What to Bring

Admission is completely free, which is basically the best four words a mom on a budget can hear. Food trucks will be on-site all evening if you’d rather not cook (no judgment, we’re right there with you).

A few quick logistics to keep in mind before you head out:

• Bring your own lawn chairs or blankets for seating
• Tents and canopies are not allowed, so leave those at home
• Parking and additional entertainment details will be posted on the Elkhart Parks & Recreation Facebook page as the week goes on, so keep an eye out

Event coordinator Liz Stoutenour summed up the mood perfectly, saying the team knows how disappointed families were when the July 4th show got postponed, and they’re excited to bring everyone back together for a night that’s well worth the wait.
