Let’s be honest: by the second week of October, you’ve already bought the Halloween candy twice. Once for the kids, and once to replace the bag you “taste-tested” after bedtime. No judgment here.

Here’s the good news: this weekend, somebody else is handing out the candy. And it’s totally free.

Island Park Trunk or Treat Returns for Year 14

The City of Elkhart Parks & Recreation is bringing back the 14th annual Island Park Trunk or Treat this Saturday, October 10. Kids get to show off their costumes and go trick-or-treating from creatively decorated vehicles all over the park.

It runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., which means it’s done before naptime meltdowns. You’re welcome.

Why Local Families Love It

After 14 years, this has become a true Elkhart Halloween tradition. Local businesses, organizations, and neighbors go all out decorating their trunks, and the whole park turns into one big costume party.

Event Coordinator Liz Stoutenour says it best: “There’s nothing quite like seeing Island Park filled with kids in costume and families enjoying the afternoon together.” We couldn’t agree more.

Enter the Costume Contest (Yes, Grown-Ups Too!)

Spent three nights hot-gluing that homemade dinosaur costume? Let’s get it some recognition.

• Everyone can enter, of any age
• Stop by the costume contest tent during the event to sign up and get your photo taken
• Parks & Rec will pick 10 finalists per category
• Finalists get featured on their Facebook page for public voting

Translation: it’s time to rally the group chat for votes.
