What Is the Great Cardboard Boat Race, Anyway?

Picture this: teams of everyday humans (your neighbors, your coworkers, that one dad from soccer practice who takes everything very seriously) build actual, floating boats entirely out of cardboard — then race them across the pond to see whose engineering skills reign supreme.

It’s hosted by Crossroads United Way, and this year they’re going all in with a “Party Like It’s 1776!” theme, celebrating America’s 250th birthday right alongside the boat wrecks. And Froggy 102.7 is proud to be one of the sponsors making it happen! 🐸🎉

• 🗓️ When: Friday, August 14, 2026, starting at 11 AM

• 🎆 Theme: Party Like It’s 1776 — wear your red, white, and blue!

Your Race Day Schedule

11 AM – 3 PM: Rock the Dock
This is your chill-and-graze window — food trucks, live music, vendors, the silent auction, and the Deck of Fame experience.

3 PM – 5 PM: Battle of the Boats
This is the main event. Watch teams race across the water — or, let’s be honest, watch some of them make an unforgettable splash instead.

More Ways to Get In on the Fun

Vote with your wallet. The People’s Choice Fundraiser lets you support your favorite crew — every donation counts as a vote, with trophies going to the team that raises the most money and the team with the most individual donors.

Bid on something fabulous. The online silent auction is already live with 26 baskets up for grabs, from patriotic collections to local experiences. Just know it closes promptly at 3 PM on race day, so don’t dawdle.

Feed your crew. Teams can pre-purchase $12 meal vouchers (entrée + drink) redeemable at local vendors like Hawg ‘n Dawg, Rulli’s Pizza, and Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee — but the deadline to order is Wednesday, August 12.

Gear up. There’s an official 2026 apparel collection, including a Washington’s Boat Club line, made in partnership with AlphaGraphics Elkhart.

Lend a hand. They’re still looking for volunteers for race day — parking, hospitality, boat launch support, and more.
