Mom, Can We Get Ice Cream?
Written by Zach Miller on June 30, 2026
If you’ve heard that phrase approximately 4,000 times since school let out, congratulations — you’re a parent in the summer, and ice cream is basically a fourth meal at this point. Good news: you now have an official excuse to say yes.
July is National Ice Cream Month, and things are about to get extra sweet. Grab the kids, find a spoon that isn’t sticky, and let’s dig into the scoop (sorry, had to).
Mark Your Calendar (And Your Freezer)
Here’s what’s coming up:
- Tomorrow is National Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day — perfect excuse to try something weird and wonderful.
- Sunday, July 19th is National Ice Cream Day, always celebrated the third Sunday of July.
- All month long, it’s officially National Ice Cream Month — basically a green light to eat dessert before dinner. We don’t make the rules.
So… What’s Indiana’s Favorite Flavor?
Here’s the fun part. A new report pulled Google search data to figure out the most popular ice cream flavor in every single state, and the results are all over the map (literally — there’s a map and everything).
Drumroll, please: Indiana’s #1 flavor is Peppermint. 🌿
Not exactly the flavor we expected to see crowned champion in July, but hey — somebody’s grandma is very, very happy right now.
America’s Top (and Bottom) Five Flavors
Across the whole country, the most-searched favorites were:
- Strawberry
- Chocolate Chip
- Cookie Dough
- Chocolate
- Vanilla
And the flavors America is, apparently, not that into right now:
- Ube
- Blue Moon
- Mocha
- Lavender
- Mango
(Sorry, lavender fans. Oregon still loves you.)
Strawberry Is Basically Running the Show
Strawberry took the crown in 15 states, more than any other flavor in the country. If you live in one of these spots, you’re in good (pink) company:
Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia
The Creative Crowd
Some states said “vanilla? never heard of her” and went bold instead. A few of our favorites from the creative flavor club:
- Boba — Florida
- Butter Pecan — Georgia
- Coconut — Hawaii
- Matcha — Kansas
- Salted Caramel — North Dakota
- Pumpkin — West Virginia (in July?! bold.)
You can check out Innerbody’s full report to see how every single state voted — Neapolitan loyalists in Oklahoma and Washington, we see you too.
Now It’s Your Turn
Peppermint may have won the official title for Indiana, but we want to know what’s actually in your freezer tonight.
