The Self-Care Event Elkhart Moms Are Talking About — And Why You Need to Know About It
Written by Zach Miller on February 10, 2026
Let’s be real for a second. Between school pickups, dinner, work deadlines, and somehow remembering that you have a life too — self-care usually ends up at the very bottom of your to-do list. Sound familiar? We thought so.
That’s why when we heard about the Self-Care City Scavenger Hunt right here in the Elkhart area, we had to talk about it. This isn’t a spa day that requires a babysitter and a full Saturday. This is something refreshingly different — and it was designed with you in mind.
So, What Exactly Is the Self-Care City Scavenger Hunt?
Put on by Wellness Events International, the Self-Care City Scavenger Hunt is a self-guided wellness adventure built around the Hot Habits book series. Think of it as equal parts personal growth challenge, city exploration, and solo (or group!) adventure — all rolled into one afternoon.
The event uses what educators call VARK learning methodologies — Visual, Auditory, Read/Write, and Kinesthetic — to help you discover and build new wellness habits in a way that actually sticks. Because let’s face it, reading a self-help book on the nightstand you haven’t touched in three weeks isn’t cutting it for most of us.
Participants choose from 15 self-care habits that touch on seven key areas of wellness: Physical, Emotional, Intellectual, Social, Spiritual, Environmental, and Occupational. You customize the experience based on what resonates most with your life right now.
What Does It Actually Look Like?
Here’s the best part: you set the pace. The event is completely self-guided, so there’s no pressure to keep up with anyone or be somewhere at an exact time. You can start your scavenger hunt anytime between 1–5 PM and move through your city at your own speed.
Throughout the adventure, you’ll encounter a mix of experiences designed for different learning styles:
- Visual Tasks: Mindful environments that spark creativity and awareness
- Auditory Experiences: Audio-based activities that motivate and encourage your wellbeing
- Read/Write Activities: Reflective tasks that deepen your commitment to new habits
- Kinesthetic Challenges: Physical activities that help make those habits actually feel real
You’re not just learning about wellness — you’re doing it, in your own community, on your own terms.
Why This Is Perfect for Busy Moms in the Michiana Area
We’ve talked a lot on the show about how hard it is for working moms to carve out any time for themselves. And the answer is almost never “just wake up an hour earlier!” (Thanks, but no.) What actually works is finding something that feels worth making time for.
The Self-Care City Scavenger Hunt checks a lot of boxes for us:
✓ Flexible timing — you go at your own pace, no rigid schedule
✓ Go solo or bring your people — great for a mom friend date or a little solo adventure
✓ It’s in Elkhart — no long drive, no hotel, no complicated logistics
✓ It’s actually fun — not another “sit in a chair and journal” situation
✓ It builds real habits — the kind that last beyond one Saturday afternoon
You’ll also get out of your usual routine and see Elkhart from a different angle — which, honestly, is a little bit of self-care all on its own.
The Hot Habits Series: What’s Behind the Event?
The scavenger hunt is inspired by the Hot Habits book series, which focuses on building sustainable personal development habits through practical, research-backed strategies. The series is designed to help people integrate positive changes into everyday life without overhauling everything at once — which is exactly the approach most of us actually need.
As an optional add-on, participants can also grab a companion guide from the series to take the habit-building experience even further after the event ends. Think of it as the event giving you a taste, and the books giving you the full meal.

Self-Care Isn’t Selfish. It’s Survival.
We’ll say it again for the people in the back: taking care of yourself is not a luxury. It’s how you show up better for the people who need you most. Whether that’s a scavenger hunt, a 20-minute walk, or just finally making that appointment you’ve been putting off — you deserve it.
Events like this Self-Care City Scavenger Hunt exist to remind us that personal growth doesn’t have to be boring, expensive, or complicated. Sometimes it just looks like wandering around your city with a mission and a better version of yourself waiting at the finish line.
We’re rooting for you, Elkhart. Now go take care of yourself.
