Adults Deserve an Easter Basket Too – And the Proof Is in the Peeps

Written by on March 24, 2026

Easter isn’t just for the kids anymore — and honestly, it never really was.

Let’s be real for a second. You spent weeks hiding plastic eggs around the house, filling baskets with all the good stuff, and making sure every Cadbury Mini Egg was perfectly placed. You do ALL the work. So why shouldn’t you get a basket too?

Turns out, you’re not alone in thinking that — not even close.

Two-Thirds of Adults Say They’ve Earned It

According to a recent survey via PR Newswire, 66% of American adults believe they deserve an Easter basket just as much as children do. And honestly? We’re nodding along.

You wake up before the sun. You make lunches, referee sibling arguments, survive the school drop-off lane, put in a full day of work, come home, make dinner, get the kids to bed, and then you find time to coordinate the Easter egg hunt logistics. If that’s not basket-worthy behavior, we don’t know what is.

You’ve Also Probably Stolen Their Candy (It’s Okay, We Know)

Here’s where it gets a little spicy: 36% of adults secretly admit to eating their kids’ Easter candy without telling them.

We’re not judging. We’re relating.

The survey doesn’t specify what candy was taken, but let’s be honest — nobody’s walking off with the giant chocolate bunny. That would be too obvious. A few jellybeans here, a Reese’s Peanut Butter Egg there… those are practically invisible. You practically did them a favor. Sugar before school? You’re welcome.

More Fun Stats That’ll Make You Feel Seen

The survey had plenty more receipts on adult Easter behavior, and we’re here for all of it:

  • 28% of adults buy Easter candy specifically for themselves — not the kids. Just for them. A private stash. A personal treat drawer. We respect it.
  • 27% of adults have competed with their own kids to find Easter eggs first — and 18% admit they’ve cheated to win. We have so many questions. And zero judgment.
  • 34% of adults buy candy in bulk and hide some of it for themselves — or even build their own separate Easter basket. This is called planning ahead, and it’s a life skill.
  • When it comes to favorite Easter candies, adults are going for the good stuff: peanut butter candy (48%), dark chocolate treats (46%), and chocolate eggs (44%) top the list. (Reese’s Eggs, we see you.)
  • About half of those surveyed say Easter candy actually tastes better than Halloween candy. Bold claim. Not wrong.

The Easter Fun Doesn’t End on Sunday

Easter isn’t a one-day holiday — at least not for the adults running the show:

  • 64% of adults plan to hit the after-Easter candy sales — and honestly, 50% off Cadbury eggs is basically a religious experience.
  • 59% say their Easter candy haul lasts the full week after the holiday.
  • And 41% admit to taking Easter Monday off work. Officially listed reason: TBD. Unofficially? Candy coma.

So, Should You Build Yourself an Easter Basket This Year?

Short answer: Absolutely yes.

You don’t need a survey to tell you that you’ve earned a little treat (but hey, now you have the data to back it up). Whether it’s a bag of your favorite candy tucked away in the pantry, a little self-care basket you put together for yourself, or just claiming the last Reese’s Egg in the house — you deserve it.

Americans plan to spend a collective $23.6 billion on Easter this year, according to the National Retail Federation National Retail Federation — so clearly, people are taking the holiday seriously. Might as well make sure you’re on the receiving end of some of that Easter magic too.
